Introduction

In your final year, you’re going to have to apply to the foundation programme to secure F1/F2 jobs. Traditionally there are 2 main routes: “Normal” Foundation Programme (FP) and Academic Foundation Programme (AFP), with more recent additions of Foundation Priority Programme (FPP) and Psychology Fellowships.

The Application Process Set-Up

Your medical school will send your university email address to the UK Foundation Programme (UKFPO) and certify that you are a final year medical student eligible to apply to foundation training. Then UKFPO will then send you a link which activates your account on the national application portal called Oriel. So basically, you don’t need to worry about signing up yourself, as this will be done automatically. Don’t jump the gun and sign-up before the link comes, as this may mean you have two oriel accounts active at the same time, which can be a pain to sort out (trust me, been there, done that).

Anyway, you click the link, follow the account set-up and boom you’re ready to start applying.
