Introduction

If you are passionate about research, love getting your teeth sunk into a long-term project and what to be more involved in graduate life at university, then the MB/PhD course is definitely something you should consider.

So, what actually is it? Essentially, it allows you to carry out a fully funded PhD alongside your medical degree. So, you finish 3 years preclinical, and enter and complete year 4. After this, you essentially leave clinical training to complete a three-year period of full-time research. This is combined with regular clinical education, including weekly clinical supervisions and monthly clinical seminars.  It concludes with students rejoining the clinical course to complete their studies. So, at the end of 9 years you walk away with both a PhD and a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
