Model Answers for Medical School Interview Questions

“Tell me about yourself”

This is one of the first questions you may get asked in your medical school interviews. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a casual question. Remember this is a medical school interview not speed-dating. So use this opportunity to leave a great first impression by discussing your key strengths and achievements. But don't just blurt them all out. Instead use a logical structure and use signposting language to guide the interviewer through your answer. A structure we use in academic interviews is called CAMP: clinical, academic, management and personal. Talk about your clinical work experience (in real life or virtual). Then move on to academic achievements. Then discuss your leadership and team roles. Finally, end with a personal interest. Remember to signpost throughout to show that you're moving on from one category to the next.

Model answer:

"Clinically, I'm extremely interested in neurological disorders and explored this by taking some online courses over the summer holidays. When it comes to volunteering experience, I'm passionate about the community and volunteer in my spare time at the homeless shelter to prepare food for those in need. As for my management skills, I captain the debating team and am part of the county football team. In terms of personal interest, I enjoy playing the guitar which has helped me improve my dexterity. All of these experiences have helped me hone skills vital for studying medicine and working as a doctor".
