Introduction
In your final year, you’re going to have to apply to the foundation programme to secure F1/F2 jobs. Traditionally there are 2 main routes: “Normal” Foundation Programme (FP) and Academic Foundation Programme (AFP), with more recent additions of Foundation Priority Programme (FPP) and Psychology Fellowships.
Foundation Programme
The FP is a 2 year job where you rotate through six, 4-monthly clinical blocks with a mix of medicine, surgery and community specialities. In this post, let’s take a closer look at the application process, points system and some FAQs.
Academic Foundation Programme
The AFP has always been seen as the route for the more research driven medics. But actually, I’d argue it needs to be thought of more as education and research rather than just research. There are a lot of programmes now that just focus on improving medical education, which feels a lot more accessible and appealing, at least to me anyway.
